This swim had only been done 5 times before. A group of us decided to attempt it in November 2019. The swim starts at the Moyo Pier in Durban and finishes outside the lifesavers hut in Umhlanga. I actually wanted to finish at the Umhlanga lighthouse but there are too many rocks and it would have been unsafe for us to try and exit the water there.
If the sharks didn’t kill us the rocks would certainly have. We had to push on an extra few hundred meters so we could safely exit the water.
6 of us swam 18km through the shark infested waters of KZN and successfully completed one of the hardest endurance swims I have ever had the pleasure of doing.
