Robben Island to 3 Anchor Bay

Robben Island to 3 Anchor Bay

A hard 11.5km swim from Robben Island to 3 Anchor Bay. This is not as common as the Robben Island to Big Bay swims. Here you are dealing with strong currents and you end up swimming through the shipping lanes. I got in and the water temp was 12 degrees. This swim was a slog. I had trained hard and was prepared but a lot of swimming is actually dealing with the boredom. It was a horrible day. Overcast, miserable and cold. The cold got me at about 5km. I felt the first shivers coming over my body. 6.5km to go. I went from feed to feed. With 3km to go, I was now freezing and my shoulders were sore. Don’t quit, you have been here before. You know this pain. Deal with it. Just get to the next feed. I began to count down my feeds and when I eventually touched land, there were about 15 locals screaming for me. They could not believe that I had swum from Robben Island. I got out the water and puked everywhere.
I looked up and they were looking at me horrified.
What can I say, I got sea sick.
