Back the next year to do it again. This was even harder than the first year. It was awful. The water was rough and after the first km my goggles broke. I had to rush to the shops buy super glue, fix them and rush back to be in time for the start of the second mile. At mile 4 I was sea sick and nauseous. 8 miles to go, 8 hours of feeling like death. 8 hours of nausea and vomiting. 8 hours of convincing myself not to go home.
At mile number 6 a bunch of people quit. Conditions were too rough and they had had enough. They were far better swimmers than me and all I wanted to do was quit and go home. You are a Mayers said my dad, we don’t quit. I got in for the 7th mile and swore it was my last, then the 8th. The 12th and final mile came up and I think it took me 45 mins to complete. I was physically ill and again, I kept that medal. I think I came last but don’t forget, a whole lot of people quit, so I was the last of the finishers but I finished.
